Have We Been Using Dry Shampoo Incorrectly This Whole Time?

DRY SHAMPOO. Is it not essentially a universal product that lives on our dressers? I’m going to go with the majority and say uh, YES.

If you’re like me, you were utilizing dry shampoo on three-day old hair or post gym. I’d think I could get one to two more days out of it, but always felt like I was just layering product and resulting in an itchy, somewhat flat mess. Thankfully, I learned a new trick from a talented hairdresser that is proving to be A+ AND have an added benefit. Simple, but effective….

Add your dry shampoo to CLEAN hair.

After your regular products and style, add the dry shampoo. This will allow the dry shampoo to soak up oil as it comes instead of sitting on top. BONUS is that it adds volume, grit and texture to your style.

With that being said, let’s chat a little more about dry shampoo options. If you’ve ever perused a beauty aisle, you’ve seen a variety of bottles and cans of it. While there are plenty of brands, there are two main forms: powder and aerosol. So which one is better?

Powder vs. Aerosol

Everyone’s favorite answer: when it comes to dry shampoo, it’s all about personal preference. Both with the goal of extending the life of your style, each has their benefits and it’s up to you to choose!

After trying a variety of different products and spending time at the salon this weekend, I favor a powder - specifically this one. The powder typically contains less ingredients, is completely filled with product, physically lasts a long time and adds texture to my hair.

At the end of the day, choose what works best for YOU, but try spritzing it on clean hair.
