Use This Simple Blush Placement for a Lifted, More Natural Appearance

Whether it’s the combination of white eyeliner and mascara to brighten eyes, bronzer to carve out cheek bones, or gua sha to depuff - many are looking for ways to ‘lift’ the face without an actual facelift. I’m in that category, because needles petrify me (I’m queasy just thinking about it). Plus, who doesn’t love a natural look? So when I came across a blush trick, I knew I had to try.

Blush is one of my favorite things in a makeup kit. Cream, powder, stain, doesn’t matter, I want to try it. However, I really was just using it to add a pop of pink to my face and because of that, my placement was off. After coming across a TikTok (if you’ve seen it, let me know so I can credit it!), I saw the placement higher on the cheek to give a more lifted and youthful appearance. When the blush was placed lower on the cheek, it didn’t have the same lifted effect.

Tricks for Applying Blush for a Lifted Look

  • Apply highlighter before the blush. This will still give you the highlighted look without looking Neapolitan ice-cream like.

  • If using a cream blush, rub on the back of your hand to pick up the color with your fingers. This will give a more subtle appearance and allows you to build the color. No clown cheeks for us!

  • Replace the smile technique and worked off a soft smile or neutral face. Following the cheekbone (out and up), dab on color and then blend with a makeup sponge.

I have yet to try with a powdered blush, but this little tip was too good not to share immediately. I know life is mainly Zoom calls and takeout, but why not add some blush to your day? Not only did the placement and technique give the appearance of a higher cheek bone, it actually made my makeup look even more natural.
